Yacht Charters - The Lux Life at Sea

BVI Sunset (Photo by Patricia Zariello)
We were sitting on our balcony of a beautiful luxury villa. The sun was setting over the sea creating the most breathtaking view. It was like being in a three dimensional piece of art rich with color and what seemed like strategically placed silhouettes of the sail boats anchored there for the night. It was magical! Both my husband and I always felt a sense of happiness and peacefulness being near the water. We chatted about how awesome it was to be there, but at the same time there was a mutual curiosity and sort of yearning to be to be on one of those boats watching this beautiful sunset from the deck and waking up on the water.  And just like that a yacht charter quickly earned a top spot on our bucket list.

BVI Sunset (By Patricia Zariello)
The first chance we got we booked our first boat charter. It was a 52’ sailboat. We spent a week in the British Virgin Islands hopping from island to island exploring places only accessible by boat, and yes catching those sunsets every night and waking up to just as beautiful sunrises. The relaxed pace and second to none service was like nothing we had ever experienced on vacation before. Sailing was so picturesque and charming like something out of an incredible romanic novel. The crew was at our service but at the same time gave us all the privacy we needed. It was as if they magically appeared only when we needed them. We didn’t even have to think as the entire itinerary and even our meals were carefully planned for us ahead of time according to our preferences which we gave them prior to the trip. Over the course of the week we checked off everything we wanted to do and more. Perhaps one of the most memorable evenings was not on our to-do list because we would never have known about it if it weren’t for our captain who quickly learned that we like to have a good time and suggested we stop at “Foxy’s” on the tiny island of Jost Van Dyke. Apparently there was a sailboat regatta going on at the time, and Foxy’s, paying tribute to its roots as a popular rest stop for sailors, was the place to be. So we anchored there for the night and left the quiet romance for a few hours and partied with the sailors. It was a blast! The live music had us dancing on the sand till early hours of the morning. A must stop for anyone who visits the BVI. It has become a great spot for not only sailors but also wannabe sailors like us, castaways, pirates, mermaids, posh yachts, you name it everyone looking for action, fun, food and strong rum drinks is sure to find it there.  Heading home we knew this was not going to be our last charter.

Family Yacht Charter
We loved it so much we wanted to do it again and include our young children who were (and are to this day) as “salty” as their parents. We knew they would love it and I’m happy to report that we were right about that! They have been on a lot of magnificent vacations but I think this one was one of their favorites for sure. And from a parental perspective it was chart topping! When have you ever gone on vacation with three young children and not had a complaint or a whine or even an ounce of stress? Even Disney World can’t deliver that!  This time we chartered a catamaran and motored for part of the time but still had some peaceful sailing time as well. It was truly a vacation to remember.  Just being on the boat was exciting for the kids, but with water sports, and fishing, and swimming all day they were constantly entertained. The crew was amazing with the kids at the same time taking care of our every need as well. The catamaran was a great choice with children. The combination of motor and sailing worked out perfectly!

Island Hopping in Greece
We didn’t stop there though. Even though we spend a lot of time on our own boat at home there is nothing like having a crew at your service and exploring new places. So for our next vacation we chartered another boat with a group of friends. While we loved the sailboat for the sheer romanticism, the excitement of the adventure, and the thrill of navigating the seas using only the natural forces of the elements, we decided to give the motor yacht a go for our next charter. We set our sights on the Greek islands and off we went on an 85’ motor yacht for the time of our lives! Motor yachts tend to be larger and enjoy more deck space on average. This means more on board facilities, more guests, and more recreational activities so it was perfect for a group of good friends. We have since chartered several luxury yachts including our most recent being the majestic 129’ motor yacht in the Exumas Bahamas. Simply incredible from the divine cuisine to the endless activities to the impeccable attention to detail. Words cannot express how amazing this trip was. Truly unforgettable!

I loved all of my charter trips as each one offered a new and different experience, but at the same time each one equally inspiring and memorable. There are many reasons why I would recommend a crewed charter yacht over a hotel. Above all these bespoke vacations offer an unparalleled level of luxury, flexibility, and privacy, combined with sensational personal service, even your own private chef, and a breathtaking new view everyday! You are truly pampered by a dedicated crew that no hotel, even the most luxurious simply cannot compete with. It is most definitely the dream vacation we imagined it would be that very day on the balcony of our villa.
